Thursday Night Runs
The main weekly run that we
have year round is the Thursday Night Run. Through the summer
we meet at 5:45 in members homes. The host provides a place to
change and a course to run. The runs are mapped out with several
distances to choose from. After the run the host provides a shower
and delicious meal. Those who eat and drink are asked to chip in for
it.
During the remainder of the
year we run from The Fitness Mill at 5:45. The Fitness Mill
provides showers and locker room. After the run we meet at the Black
Cat for food, drinks and stimulating conversation.
All are welcome to attend even
if you don't run.
Sunday Morning
Breakfast Runs
Through the winter we meet at
a members home at 9:00am Sunday morning to run. After the run we
meet for a breakfast of dishes provided by the participants.
Summer Track
Workouts
The track workouts run through
the summer at the New Hartford High School Track.
Monthly
Business Meeting
Once a month we meet to run
the business of the Utica Roadrunners. It is on the second Monday of
the month at the National Distance Running Hall of Fame at 7:00
pm. Alternately, sometimes we meet at the club President's
home or other site. All members are invited to attend, call ahead
for location.
The Utica
Roadrunners are active in many events. We have members who are
involved in running events all over the country.
Winter
Utica is the home of
America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk which is the best of
it's kind by far. Each year over 1 million dollars were raised with
the Utica Roadrunners help.
Our
Awards Banquet is held around March to show our appreciation
to our hard working members as well as recognize the achievements of
those who have excelled in our club and community. Every year we add
to the 1000 mile club members who receive a club jacket to show
their accomplishment.
Spring
In 1999 the Utica Roadrunners
got together with the National Distance Running
Hall of Fame to start a new race. This half marathon was the
first annual Distance Running Hall of Fame Race. The course
will lead you from historic Downtown Utica to the scenic canal
trails and back. For those who like their distance running a little
shorter there is also a 5k Race.
Summer
The SOS (Save Our Switchbacks) Run was
created to raise funds to repair the roads and drainage in the South
Woods. The South Woods is a popular area for running and other
activities such as the Development Runs and the Falling Leaves
Race.
The Summer Sizzle is the Utica
Roadrunners contribution to family running. The challenges of
family categries such as Husband & Wife and Mother &
Daughter bring a fun twist to the competition.
The Utica
Boilermaker is the
largest 15k Road Race in the United States. The Utica Roadrunners
influence can be seen in all aspects of the race from the
organization to the many volunteers needed for putting on the
event.
Fall
Our own Falling Leaves Road Race
has a 5k through Utica and a beautiful 14k course through the South
Woods maked for an event that any runner would love. Add the Kids
Run and you have a day of colorful fun for the whole family. It is
the oldest race in the Utica area.
