Save Our Switchbacks

Course Information

The race starts and finishes in the same location as the weekly UR Development Runs, adjacent to the Parkway Ski Chalet. It will start up the Parkway before taking the running path alongside Valley View Road. A quick stint in Valley View golf course takes runners into Roscoe Conkling Park to run the switchbacks in reverse direction. The course comes back onto the golf course for one last hill before entering the top entrance to the Utica Zoo. Runners will race down African Alley and out the main gate of the Zoo before heading down the Memorial Parkway to the finish.

Kids Fun Run
The Kids Fun Run will run up the Parkway to Steele Hill Road (entry to Utica Zoo) and turn around. There is no fee. Open to kids under 12. No Kids Tees.

In the spring of 1996, following a particularly harsh winter, the 2-mile South Woods trail through the Roscoe Conkling Park had deteriorated to a safety hazard. Responding to the imminent loss of the South Woods trail, the Utica Roadrunners prevailed upon the city to allow the club to temporarily repair the most severely damaged sections, reopen the trail, and embark on a long term plan to restore the South Woods trail. Since then, the SOS project has expanded to include the running path alongside Valley View Road.
